Bengaluru Violence: Section 144 Extended In Riot-Hit DJ Halli & KG Halli Till August 15
Section 144 imposed in riot-affected areas of Bengaluru DJ Halli and KG Halli has been extended till August 15.
Bengaluru Violence: Section 144 that restricts large gatherings in public spaces has been imposed in areas of Bengaluru where violence erupted on August 11th after objectionable facebook post on Prophet Mohammad has been extended till August 15. According to information by, ANI the Bengaluru Commissioner of Police Kamal Pant has informed that Section 144 has been imposed in areas under DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits till 6 am on 15th August.

On Tuesday night, massive violence broke out in Bengaluru, Karnataka after the nephew of a Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy posted an objectionable Facebook post on Prophet Muhammad. According to reports, a large mob had gathered Murthy’s residence demanding the arrest of Naveen. The mob then rioted in DJ Halli, KG Halli and Pulakeshi Nagar causing vandalism and arson across the city. Murthi’s house was also left completely charred and broken by rioters. The Bengaluru police arrested Murthy’s nephew Naveen on Wednesday for the social media post. So far 146 people have been arrested for the violence.
"It has been decided in a meeting with Cheif Ministe with senior officials that district magistrate will hold an inquiry into the incident as per guidelines of the National Human Rights Commission. So far 146 has been arrested," said Basavaraj Bommai, Karnataka Home Minister.
During the violence, around three people died in police firing and 60 police personnel were injured in clashes. Police also imposed Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the city to prohibit the assembly of four or more persons in an area, while curfew was imposed in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits.
