Augusta Westland case: Dubai court orders Christian Michel's extradition to India
In 2016 Cristian Michel’s lawyer had said that her client is ready to come to India and face the investigation agencies; but wanted an assurance that he will not be arrested.
New Delhi: Dubai court has ordered extradition of wanted British National Christian Michel to India in Augusta Westland case. Though, the case is yet to have a final nod by Dubai minister. As per the allegation, accused Cristian Michel played the role of a middleman in the case and thereafter distributed a bribe to a lot of people in India.
Cristian Michel wanted to come to India in 2016: In 2016 Cristian Michel’s lawyer had said that her client is ready to come to India and face the investigation agencies; but wanted an assurance that he will not be arrested. Former Airforce Chief Tyagi and others get bail: Delhi court on September 12 in a money laundering case, related to this case bailed former Air Force Chief SP Tyagi and 3 of his relatives. The court had asked the 3 to deposit bail amount worth 1 lakh and an equal amount of affidavit in the case. What are the conditions of his bail? As part of the conditions of his bail, Michel will have to submit a guarantor's passport in the court. In the event, that he does not appear for the hearing, then the guarantor will be liable to pay 500,000 Dirham (approximately Rs 94 lakh). Michel has been in detention in Dubai since June. He was placed under detention after India asked for his extradition through Dubai court. Local lawyers have said the process of his release will take about five hours, depending on the guarantor's passport.
