Athletics Federation’s remark on Hima Das’ English draws strong criticism on Internet
Through their Twitter handle, they had lauded the 18-year-old for victory but also wrote: “not so fluent English”.
Many criticized the tweet and said that they should have focused more on Hima’s victory rather than her English. Here are some of the tweets -#HimaDas speking to media after her SF win at #iaaftampere2018 @iaaforg Not so fluent in English but she gave her best there too. So proud of u #HimaDas Keep rocking & yeah, try ur best in final! @ioaindia @IndianOlympians @TejaswinShankar @PTI_News @StarSportsIndia @hotstartweets pic.twitter.com/N3PdEamJen

My question to the Federation is, Why talk about her English speaking skills at all? It didn't really need any addressing!
And to trollers, How can you troll the Federation when you yourself can't ignore a slight typo by them? Time to get out of such mindsets! — Farah Khan (@FaraaahKhan) July 13, 2018
She has landed in Tampere for displaying her talent in track and not in English???? Its shame on you @afiindia for what you said????

Why should we even talk abt her English at all
— Anil Sehrawat (@anilksehrawat) July 12, 2018
Why do you even need to mention not so fluent in English but, why does an athlete even need to know English.

Morons. Check out the French soccer stars. Do they care to speak English? Your moronic English slavery keeps Indian athletics behind. The stars come from non-English backgrounds, perhaps that's why they excel.https://t.co/kQW3YnTLFX

Who cares about her English?!!! Its just a language meant for easing communication. She speaks with with her strides. And her speech is pure poetry. Period.

You should have sent @ShashiTharoor to that event, folks. He’d have come last & explained in beautiful English that it was all because India became a Hindu Pakistan. https://t.co/mYYsEhxxLJ

She has not been featured by @iaaforg for her English speaking skills,we have lot of good English speakers in India but very few who can run like her #LegendintheMaking
— J D'Souza (@johnd290) July 12, 2018
why would you even say that? how does it matter? what value does your comment on her English proficiency add? Are you feeling embarrassed because she doesn't speak fluent English? Rethink this. Seriously.

You don't even know how to spell "Speaking" in the first place, and you're talking about her fluency in English? Shame!

#HimaDas gave a great spontaneous reply-She is our Hero.-Why should anyone of us be expected to be fluent in English? can @afiindia speak in Assamese , or is fluent in any indian language ?How many champs in world are fluent in English? You suffer from slave mentality
— Tarun Vijay (@Tarunvijay) July 13, 2018
Her English is perfectly fine. She speaks with immense confidence ???? @Ra_THORe @CMOfficeAssam @northeastblog
