The Congress party is set to release its first list of candidates for Chhattisgarh on Sunday. Of the 20 seats that will undergo first phase of polling in the state, the Congress currently holds 19 with 17 of them won in 2018 Assembly polls and the other two secured through bypolls. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party has already released two lists of candidates for Chhattisgarh as well as Madhya Pradesh.

The decision to announce the names of candidates comes after the Congress party held discussions on Friday in its meeting of the Central Election Commission in the national capital. Deliberations were held for the names of candidates for Madhya Pradesh as well as it asserted that the party is moving towards securing a full majority in the state.

The meeting was chaired by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and was attended by former party chief Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary in-charge for Madhya Pradesh Randeep Surjewala and former chief minister Kamal Nath.

In the north eastern state of Mizoram, the ruling

Mizo National Front (MNF) forged an alliance with the Hmar People's Convention (Reformation), a faction of the HPC party, on Saturday.  MNF general secretary Lalmuanthanga Fanai inked an agreement with HPC(R) general secretary HT Vunga for the alliance.

The BJP has appointed Union minister Kiren Rijiju as the election in-charge for the polls in the state.

Additionally, Yanthungo Patton, the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, and the party's National General Secretary Anil Antony have been designated as election co-incharges.

The Assembly polls in the five states will be held between November 7 and November 30. Mizoram will go to polls on November 7, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 25, and Telangana on November 30 while Chhattisgarh will vote in two phases on November 7 and November 17.
