Background

Assembly Election Results 2021 HIGHLIGHTS After months of electioneering and hectic campaigning, the day arrives when it will be declared which Party or Candidates were able to woo or retain the faith of voters. West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry all went under the polls after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued the notification on February 26.

West Bengal witnessed state assembly election in 8 phases, while Assam went to polls in three-phase and Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry all went on the same day, April 6.

ECI has made arrangements as per covid protocols for smooth and safe counting in 822 Assembly Constituencies in the 4 States and a Union Territory. Counting will take place at 2,364 counting halls as compared to 1,002 halls for the 2016 Assembly Elections. This nearly 200 per cent increase is in view of COVID safety measures.

Election Commission also issued detailed instructions in view of the pandemic. The Commission banned any kind of victory procession in the states undergoing counting of votes. As per the other instructions, candidates and agents are not be allowed inside the counting hall unless they have a valid report Covid negative report of RT-PCR or Rapid Antigen Test obtained not more than 48 hours ago.

WB Election Results 2021 Live: Much of the focus during campaigning was on West Bengal where the battle is directly between Mamata Banerjee-led TMC and BJP. Heavyweights like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister were some of the common visitors from BJP in Bengal for campaigning. Mamata, known for her furore, was equally active despite an injury to her leg. As BJP claims 200+ seats, it is to be keenly seen if Mamta Banerjee is able to claim chief ministers' chair for the third consecutive time.
