Arvind Kejriwal's Arrest: AAP MLAs Protest At Delhi Assembly Wearing 'Mai Bhi Kejriwal' T-shirt, Masks

AAP leaders entered the Well of the House, chanting "murdabad" slogans against the BJP-led Centre and demanding Kejriwal's release from the ED custody.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), clad in yellow T-shirts and donning "Kejriwal" masks, arrived at the Delhi Assembly on Wednesday to protest against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest by the ED in an excise policy-linked money-laundering case.

Led by Delhi ministers Atishi and Saurabh Bharadwaj, AAP leaders brought their social media campaign to the Assembly, dressed in yellow T-shirts bearing slogans like "Mai bhi Kejriwal" and "Modi ka sabse bada dar Kejriwal." reported PTI.

Speaking to reporters, Atishi said, "All AAP MLAs are protesting against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's illegal arrest. Efforts are being made to do away with democracy in the country. For the first time in India's history, a sitting chief minister has been arrested, and that too just before the national (Lok Sabha) election."

Earlier on Monday, AAP launched a social media drive, with leaders changing their display pictures to one portraying Kejriwal behind bars, accompanied by the caption -- "Modi ka sabse bada dar Kejriwal (Kejriwal is Modi's biggest fear)."

Upon the commencement of Assembly proceedings, AAP leaders entered the Well of the House, chanting "murdabad" slogans against the BJP-led Centre and demanding Kejriwal's release from the ED custody, leading to the adjournment of the House till April 1.

Earlier in the day, AAP leaders gathered outside the Assembly, calling for the release of their party leader, as per the PTI report.

Subsequently, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, led by Delhi unit chief Virendra Sachdeva, staged a counter-protest outside the House, demanding Kejriwal's resignation.

The BJP MLAs and workers were later detained by the police.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with the money laundering case associated with the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. He has been remanded in the custody of the federal agency until March 28, with the chief minister challenging his arrest in court.
