Army Chief Urges NDA Cadets To Welcome Women Candidates 'With Sense Of Fairness Professionalism'

General Naravane was speaking in Pune during the review of the passing parade of 141st course.

New Delhi: Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane urged the National Defence Academy (NDA) cadets to welcome women candidates with the "same sense of fairness and professionalism". General Naravane was speaking in Pune during the review of the passing parade of the 141st course.

“As we open gates of NDA for women cadets, I expect you all to welcome them with the same sense of fair play and professionalism as Indian armed forces are known for the world over,” said General Naravane. He was referring to the SC notification last month that allowed women to appear for the NDA exam in November this year.

Earlier that month, the Defence ministry had told the apex court that the notification for women candidates to take the exam will be online by May next year. However, the court allowed the female candidates to appear for the exam stating that the induction of women cannot be delayed for one year.

General Naravane also urged cadets to stay abreast with the latest technologies adding "new developments in niche technologies are transforming the very character of war...”

“A little over 42 years back, when I stood as a cadet at the same drill square as you stand today, little I could have imagined that I would be reviewing this parade,” he said further encouraging the cadets.

“From here on, you will step into the respective career service academies for more focused military training. You will don different uniforms, but always remember that no single service by itself can fight and win modern wars,” the Army Chief added.
