Amit Shah To Visit Jammu On Jan 9 To Flag Off E-Bus Service, Launch Development Initiatives

Shah is making his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir after militants at Poonch on December 21 ambushed two army vehicles, killing five soldiers and injuring two more.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to visit Jammu on Tuesday to attend a series of development-related initiatives and launch the city's e-bus service. During his visit, the Home Minister will chair a review meeting on extensive development programmes of Jammu and Kashmir on January 9, 2024, news agency PTI reported a home ministry official as saying. Besides this, Shah will also launch the 'Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra', a central government initiative, flag off an e-bus service, and inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various development works.

Shah is making his first trip to Jammu and Kashmir after militants at Poonch on December 21 ambushed two army vehicles, killing five soldiers and injuring two more. A day later bodies of three civilians were found in the Poonch district, not far from the spot of the day before the incident, sparking outrage. After the Poonch incident, Army Chief General Manoj Pande and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had previously visited Jammu.

During his visit, Amit Shah will pay a visit to the forward areas and take stock of the anti-terror operations in the area, sources said.

According to the official cited by PTI, the selected youth for different government jobs will also receive appointment letters from Amit Shah.

On January 2, Shah reviewed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir with high-ranking officials of both the Jammu and Kashmir administration and the Union government during a high-level meeting in New Delhi. In that meeting, he had instructed the strengthening of the counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir and stressed the complete elimination of the terror ecosystem. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Chief of Army staff (CoAS) General Manoj Pande, and top officials of intelligence and other security agencies were in attendance.

Amit Shah had stressed adopting all due procedures when dealing with counter-terror operations while advising the security agencies for requisite deployment in vulnerable areas in the Union Territory.
