Amid tension, AMU forms coordination committee; exams to start from May 12

NEW DELHI: Amid ruckus over hanging the portrait of Pakistan's founder at the office of Aligarh Muslim University student union, a 16 member coordination committee to oversee the prevailing situation and to maintain peace has been formed in the Aligarh Muslim University. The decision was taken after a consultative meeting of the deans of faculties, principals of colleges, executive council members and AMU Teachers Association (AMUTA) office bearers. Now, AMU examinations to start from May 12 with no further postponements. Amid tension, AMU forms coordination committee; exams to start from May 12 The issue of Jinnah’s portrait came into limelight after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Aligarh MP Satish Gautam questioned the portrait's presence in the AMU student union office. On May 2, violence broke out at the campus after the issue triggered a right-wing protest. An indefinite sit-in and boycott of academic activities by students was also called.
