Amid Rising Fuel Prices, Nitin Gadkari Reaches Parliament In Green Hydrogen-Powered Car

Nitin Gadkari assured that green hydrogen will be manufactured in India, and green hydrogen refuelling stations will be established, generating sustainable employment opportunities in the country.

New Delhi: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari travelled in a green hydrogen-powered Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) to the Parliament on Wednesday, amid rising fuel prices. The name of the car is 'Mirai', which means future.

Demonstrating the car powered by ‘green hydrogen’, Gadkari emphasised the need to spread awareness about hydrogen, FCEV technology and its benefits to support hydrogen-based society for India, the minister’s office said in a post on Twitter.

Gadkari assured that green hydrogen will be manufactured in India, and green hydrogen refuelling stations will be established, generating sustainable employment opportunities in the country, according to the post.

The Office of Nitin Gadkari wrote in the same thread that India will soon become a green hydrogen-exporting country.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of clean and cutting-edge mobility in India, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, through ‘National Hydrogen Mission’, is committed to focus on green and clean energy, the post said.

“To become 'Atmanirbhar', we have introduced green hydrogen which is generated from water. This car is a pilot project. Now, manufacturing of green hydrogen will begin in the country, imports will be curbed and new employment opportunities will be created,” news agency ANI quoted Gadkari as saying.

The minister further said that the Government of India has initiated a Rs 3,000 crore mission, and that India will soon become a country exporting hydrogen. He added that wherever coal is used in the country, green hydrogen will be used there.

"We have to become self-reliant in fuels as well," Gadkari said.
