Aligarh row: Jinnah's posters put up inside men's toilet, effigies burnt
The posters inside the washroom had the caption: “the place of Jinnah is not inside AMU (Aligarh Muslim University), but in India’s toilets.”
New Delhi: In fresh updates on the Jinnah portrait row in Aligarh, pictures of Muhammad Ali Jinnah were found pasted on the walls of a men’s washroom.
Hindu outfit members put posters of Jinnah on the walls of the washroom, just next to the urinals. The posters inside the washroom had the caption: “the place of Jinnah is not inside AMU (Aligarh Muslim University), but in India’s toilets.”
Take a look:
Not only this the leaders of the Hindu students’ union also burnt effigies of Jinnah and raised slogans asking the supporters of Jinnah to leave India and go to Pakistan.
On Friday, local scribes were also attacked inside the campus, after some students took them inside and started thrashing them. An attempt to snatch their cameras was also made.
In the wake of unrest in the university, internet services were also suspended in Aligarh district to prevent rumour mongering.
The controversy began after BJP MP has asked Aligarh Muslim University to explain why it displays a portrait of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, triggering a row days after a student sought permission to hold an RSS shakha on its premises.
In a letter written to Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor on Thursday, Aligarh MP Satish Gautam objected to the Pakistan founder's picture on the walls of the AMU student union office.
