Akbar Road Signage Vandalised With ‘Maharana Pratap Road’ Written Poster

Today, 9th of May is the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap who was a Rajput king of Mewar.

NEW DELHI:  Signages with the name ‘Akbar Road’ in central Delhi was vandalized on Wednesday. The poster pasted on the signage now declares the stretch to be “Maharana Pratap Road’. Today, 9th of May is also the birth anniversary of Maharana Pratap who was a Rajput king of Mewar, which is in the present day state of Rajasthan. The Akbar Road area falls under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council. It has India's political party Indian National Congress's head office. Previously, V K Singh had written to the Union Minister for Urban Development, proposing that Akbar Road be renamed after  Maharana Pratap Road. He had said "You would be aware that he was not only instrumental in stopping the might of Mughal king Akbar but he was truly secular and a man of masses," Singh said. The Minister had further added, "I would request you to honour this great son of India by naming the Akbar Road as Maharana Pratap Road or a suitable important road in the Lutyen Zone in his name."
