After Yogi becoming CM: Police stations in UP to have this new setup for safety of girls

New Delhi: Just within days of BJP's Yogi Adityanath becoming Chief Minister of the Uttar Pradesh, state police has swung into action to protest the fairer sex of the state which had been witnessing deteriorating law and order in past 15 years. In an exclusive conversation with ABP News channel, UP DGP Javed Ahmed said that anti-romeo squad is being constituted in all police stations of the state for the protection of girls. Interestingly, before coming to power, UP CM Yogi had said that to prevent eve-teasing, his government, if voted to power, will form anti-romeo squad. However, DGP, clarified that it will be not "moral policing". "Safety of girls/ladies is the sole intent of the anti Romeo squads. No moral policing," tweeted the top cop. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, a BJP leader in Telangana has warned that if Muslims are provided quota in jobs and education, a Yogi will emerge in this state too. N.V.S.S. Prabhakar, a member of Telangana state legislative assembly, cautioned the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government against going ahead with its proposal to increase Muslim reservation from the current four per cent to 12 per cent. "If Muslims are provided the quota, another Yogi will emerge in Telangana," he said in an obvious reference to Yogi Adityanath, the hardline BJP leader who took over as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister this week. Prabhakar alleged that the Telangana Backward Classes Commission is doing injustice to the backward classes by working for the minorities. He was referring to the survey being done by the BC Commission on socio-economic conditions of Muslims. The BJP has already threatened to launch a statewide agitation if the TRS government goes ahead with its plans to provide quota to Muslims in proportion to their population. BJP's state president K. Laxman argued that quota on the basis of religion is against the Constitution. He recalled that the courts struck down reservation for Muslims in the past. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that bills to increase the quota for Muslims and Scheduled Castes will be introduced during the ongoing Budget session of the state assembly. As the move will take the overall quota in the state beyond the permissible limit of 50 per cent, the state government plans to approach the Centre with a request to include the two legislations in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution as was done in the case of Tamil Nadu.
