As campaigning heats up for the high-voltage West Bengal electoral battle, it has emerged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to suffer a loss in the coming days courtesy of the ongoing farmers protest against the three agriculture-related bills brought in by Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.

This came to the fore as ABP in partnership with CNX conducted a survey to understand the people’s nerves ahead of the West Bengal Assembly polls. Around 48.65 per cent opined it will impact the state elections while another 35.81 per cent said the other issues are more important. However, another 15.54 per cent remained neutral.
Will farmers' protests have any impact on the WB polls?
As per the survey, 63 per cent of farmers in West Bengal voiced their support for the protest against the Centre’s three farm laws. Of the total 2,172 farmers interviewed during the survey, 20.73 per cent of farmers in the state opined that they were not backing the farmers' protests while another 16.27 per cent remained neutral.

When inquired whether the manner in which the Central Government dealt with the farmers protest at the Lal Quila on January 26 was right or wrong, 39.43 per cent opined that it was correct while 45.52 per cent said that it was wrong on part of the ruling dispensation. Another 15.14 per cent didn’t react.

CNX-ABP’s first opinion poll conducted in January-February indicated the West Bengal Assembly polls will witness a tough contest between the ruling Trinamool Congress and BJP.
