AAP's Victory Also A Birthday Gift To Kejriwal's Wife Sunita
On one hand, the party is set to hit a hattrick by winning the assembly polls today for the third time in the capital, on the other, the day also marks Delhi CM's wife's birthday.
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party is leading to secure a comfortable majority in the Delhi Assembly elections, according to the latest trends. This has brought another reason for celebration for Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today, as it is also his wife, Sunita Kejriwal's birthday. While on one hand, the party is set to hit a hattrick by winning the assembly polls today for the third time in the capital, on the other, the day also marks Delhi CM's wife's birthday anniversary.
People on Twitter gave birthday wishes to Mrs. Kejriwal, who had campaigned extensively for her husband going from door-to-door with AAP workers. "Happy Birthday Sunita Kejriwal Ma'am God bless you and the entire family. You are the strength of our hero. Proud of you," a user wrote. "What a day to celebrate a birthday!! Happy birthday to Sunita Kejriwal ma’am, the force behind the man of the day today @ArvindKejriwal," another user wrote.
Sunita Kejriwal turned 54 today. Both were officers of the Indian Revenue Service before Kejriwal joined politics.
On attacks by BJP leaders who called her husband a "terrorist", she had said, "I think people will give them (BJP leaders) a befitting reply. It's been 25 years since we are married. He (Arvind) has always told social service is his passion. Those who are saying even they know are lying... either they are under some sort of pressure or they lack an individual identity."
On the voting day last week, Sunita had tweeted a family photo outside a polling station. She said her son voted for the first time in any election.
Meanwhile, the AAP surged ahead of the BJP in early leads as the counting of votes started this morning, but remained way below the 67 it won in 2015. An aggregate of five exit polls have given it 56 seats.
The counting of votes for 70 seats of the Delhi Assembly began amid tight security at 8 am today. Delhi went to polls in a single-phase on February 8. AAP, BJP, Congress are the main political parties in the fray. The primary fight is between the ruling AAP and the BJP which is seeking to make reentry into the state politics in the national capital after over 20 years.
