After Winning Punjab, AAP Sets Eyes On West Bengal. Kejriwal To Hold Rally In Kolkata Today
The rally in Kolkata is seen as Kejriwal's attempt to consolidate his party's position in West Bengal.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will hold its first rally in the state of West Bengal on Sunday. AAP is calling this rally 'Padarpan Yatra'. Arvind Kejriwal-led party had several units in West Bengal in 2015, but these units were merged with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
After winning the Punjab Elections by a massive margin, AAP is looking to expand its base in other states too. The rally in Kolkata is seen as Kejriwal's attempt to consolidate his party's position in West Bengal.
The local AAP leaders are excited after their victory in Punjab and want to kick-start the rest of the campaigns on a high.
The Padarpan Yatra will start from Dharmatala and will go to Girish Park in Kolkata. The AAP has started conducting membership drives in the state, as per a report in CNN News18. Many hoardings and posters of AAP have emerged in the Maldah district of West Bengal.
The AAP released a statement on Friday that the party will be holding a roadshow in Amritsar on March 13 to acknowledge the immense love and trust it has received from the people of Punjab.
The AAP wants to portray themselves as the primary opposition in the country after the decimation of Congress from various states.
The AAP romped home by winning 92 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly. It decimated the Congress and the SAD-BSP combine and its candidates defeated several stalwarts, including the outgoing chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi, SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and former chief minister Amarinder Singh.
