3 Children Among Family Of 5 Burnt To Death In UP's Kanpur Dehat After Fire Engulfs House

Five members of a family, including three children, died after a house caught fire in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh.

Kanpur Dehat Incident: A couple and their three children died after a fire broke out in a house in Hara Mau village in the Derapur tehsil of Kanpur Dehat district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday night. The police said that the bodies of the victims have been sent for post-mortem.

30-year-old Satish Kumar, his wife Kajal (25) and their three children were sleeping in the house when a fire suddenly broke out. It is being reported that the fire was caused due to a short circuit. All five of them were burnt alive. Satish's mother and an infant were saved and have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Locals rushed to the spot after noticing heavy smoke and tried to douse to flames. Fire tenders also reached the site but could not save any of the five who died.

Kanpur Dehat SP told India Today, "We received information about Satish and his family being burnt alive in the fire. We have called a forensic team, fire department officials and a dog squad team for investigation. Five people died in the incident."

Satish's mother also sustained injuries after she tried to extinguish the fire and has been admitted to a hospital. District Magistrate Neha Jain also visited the hospital where Satush's mother was undergoing treatment.

A wedding program was held in the village and one member of the family had gone to attend it. The remaining seven members were at home when the fire broke out.

The incident comes almost a month after, a woman, Pramila Dixit, and her 20-year-old daughter Neha allegedly set themselves on fire on February 13 in their hut in the presence of police, district administration, and revenue officials who had come to the village to demolish encroachments on the "gram samaj" land in Kanpur Dehat district.

The incident created a massive uproar among people who demanded action against those guilty. Since then, opposition parties have been trying to counter the UP government. The Samajwadi Party said it would raise this matter during the session of the house to get their family justice.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death of the two women.

Police had booked 39 people, including a sub-divisional magistrate, four revenue officials and over a dozen of police personnel, on murder and other charges in the incident.
