Chhattisgarh: 18 Dead, 4 Injured As Pick-Up Vehicle Overturns

Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Vijay Sharma expressed his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the accident, and promised all possible help to those affected.

18 people were killed and 4 others were injured after a pick-up vehicle overturned near the Kawardha area of Chhattisgarh, according to the police.

Police said that the emergency team arrived at the spot for help and all the injured were rushed to the nearest hospital. "18 people died after a pick-up vehicle overturned near the Kawardha area. Four people have been injured & shifted to the hospital for treatment," said, Kawardha SP Abhishek Pallav, ANI quoted saying.

As per the report of ANI, at least 25 laborers, who were returning in a pickup truck after collecting tendu leaves, fell into a trench.

Reacting to the incident, PM Modi posted on social media platform X, "The road accident in Kawardha, Chhattisgarh is extremely painful. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this accident. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way."

President Murmu wrote on her social media X, "The news of the death of many people in a road accident in Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in this accident and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured."

Chhattisgarh Dy CM Arun Sao earlier said "There is news of the death of 17 people in an accident of a pick-up vehicle... This is a very sad incident... My condolence to those who lost their lives... The government is with those who are injured... Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is in constant touch with the officials for relief and rescue work... The cause of the accident will be known after the investigation. The administration is currently working to provide relief to the people. Action will be taken on the basis of whatever facts come after the investigation," ANI reported.

Responding to the situation, Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Vijay Sharma expressed deep condolences over his social media handle X to all the families who lost their loved ones in this accident and wished for the speedy recovery of all the injured. He also assured of all possible assistance to the victims and their families.

"The news of the death of 17 people due to the overturning of a pick-up vehicle full of workers in Kawardha is extremely painful. My condolences are with all the families who have lost their loved ones in this accident. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in providing all possible assistance to the victims and their families," Chhattisgarh Deputy CM said.

Earlier, Chhattisgarh's Congress president Deepak Baij also responded at his X, saying that the news of the tragic death of 15 workers returning from Pandriya after plucking tendu leaves in a road accident was disturbing. He expressed tributes to all the deceased, there is information that some workers have also been injured in this accident.

He also requested the administration to make proper arrangements for the treatment of the injured. And, asked the government to give compensation to the deceased families.
