1,000 Complaints Filed Against Rahul Gandhi For ‘Gujarat To Bengal’ Tweet: Assam BJYM

However, it was not immediately clear if any police station had registered any case against these complaints.

New Delhi: The Assam BJP Yuva Morcha said on Monday that its workers had filed over 1,000 complaints against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi at various police stations throughout the state over a tweet.

However, it was not immediately clear if any police station had registered any case against these complaints, PTI reported.

While stating that its activists submitted over 1000 complaints, Assam BJYM media convenor Biswajit Khound did not provide the names of the police stations or districts where they were filed or any other details.

In a statement, the BJYM said Rahul Gandhi in his tweet had allegedly excluded the north-east region while describing India.

"Gandhi mentioned India as stretching from Kashmir to Kerala and Gujarat to West Bengal, thereby eliminating Northeast from India. It carried a threat to India's geographical integrity and security," Khound was quoted by PTI in its report.

In one of the purported complaints filed with the police and shared with media, the BJYM alleged that Rahul Gandhi's tweet indirectly supported China's claim that north-east, especially Arunachal Pradesh, was part of it.

His tweet expressed the "separatist mentality" that showed the Congress's ideology, Khound said. "The Congress party is unfortunate for India and Rahul Gandhi is India's problem," the statement further said.

A BJP spokesperson said the state unit of the party's women wing had also filed many complaints against Gandhi at several police stations.

Gandhi tweeted on February 10 on India's diversity and strength.

"There is strength in our Union. Our Union of Cultures. Our Union of Diversity. Our Union of Languages. Our Union of People. Our Union of States. From Kashmir to Kerala. From Gujarat to West Bengal. India is beautiful in all its colours. Don't insult the spirit of India," Rahul Gandhi had tweeted.

The tweet was in response to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's remark warning UP voters against the state becoming J&K, Kerala or West Bengal.

The filing of complaints by different wings of Assam BJP against Gandhi comes after several Congress workers lodged FIRs across different states against state Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over his controversial remark on Gandhi's father.

During a rally in poll-bound Uttarakhand on February 11, Sarma had attacked Gandhi for demanding proof of the September 2016 surgical strike and questioning the efficacy of the anti-Covid vaccines.

Himanta Sarma had even asked whether "BJP had ever demanded proof of Gandhi being the son of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi".
