India bound Jeep Grand Cherokee spec revealed
New Delhi: Jeep has revealed its India-spec Grand Cherokee details on its website, eyeing a launch in the festive season. The SUV will be launched in three trims—Limited, Summit and SRT, with even the Limited variant boasting of the usual middle-end specs and features, despite its base trim status among the three Cherokee variants.
The first two variants, the Limited and the Summit, will be powered by a 3.0-liter, turbo, CRD, V6 diesel engine, delivering 240 hp of power, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The fuel economy of the two variants will be around 12.8 kmpl. The SRT, on the other hand, will be a performance-oriented vehicle with a 6.4-liter, Hemi, V8 petrol engine that delivers a huge 475 hp of power, connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The Hemi denotes the hemispherical cylinder heads used in American cars that offer better internal combustion.
The other electrical, mechanical and smarter features of the base trim are those usually found in the mid-range variants of most SUVs, as the “Limited” variant gets heated steering, heated front and middle seats, and electrically-adjustable front seats with memory. Tyre pressure monitor, 5-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment display, voice command, ORVMs with memory and heating, rear parking camera, etc. are some of the features that offer great comfort to the rider. The Limited variant gets standard safety equipment as multi-stage front airbags and knee airbags, ESC (Electronic Stability Control) and traction control.
The Summit variant, besides the standard features of the Limited variant, has ventilated front seats, power-adjusted steering, a larger 8.4-inch infotainment system, 506W amplifier and optional Harman Kardon 19-speaker audio system, Blu-Ray DVD Player with separate rear seat displays, panoramic sunroof, etc.
The 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system is standard in the performance-oriented SRT, which is not optional as it is with the Summit Trim. However, there is no Hill-holder Control and the panoramic sunroof, as the Summit and Limited have.
Jeep will offer a two-year unlimited kilometer warranty as standard for all the three variants. The Jeep Grand Cherokee will be imported as Completely Built-Up Units (CBU) and will be priced around Rs. 45 to 80 lakhs. The features and specifications of the Grand Cherokee seem worth the high price, which does add up due to its CBU import status.
