Google Maps Gets New Update, Here's How It Improves Navigation For Users

Search giant Google has brought visual improvements for users on its Google Maps app.

New Delhi: Search giant Google brings a new update to its Maps service to provide more details for its users to follow. ALSO READ | In TikTok's Absence, Instagram Reels Most Popular Choice Among Indians: YouGov Survey The latest update has visual improvements and a more colorful look of areas being searched so that users are able to get a better idea of what it looks like in reality. It will be rolled out worldwide with a host of natural and manmade features. "Whether you are exploring a new place or gearing up to head around town, you can use Google Maps to see a more colourful, easy-to-understand representation of the world starting this week. To see natural features, zoom out on Google Maps," Sujoy Banerjee, Product Manager, Google Maps said in a statement. "This update is visible no matter what area you’re looking at—from the biggest metropolitan areas to small, rural towns," he added. Besides this, the search engine is also working on improving the street maps to provide "the accurate shape and width of a road to scale." It will also give more details and exact location of sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, and mid-road islands so that commuters can easily navigate busy points. The enhanced street images will be first brought to London, New York and San Francisco in the coming months. "These details are particularly helpful as more people are opting to walk or take other forms of solo transportation due to the pandemic. We’ll start rolling out detailed street maps in London, New York, and San Francisco in the coming months, with plans to expand to more cities over time," - the official statement read. Google Maps app for Apple Watch will be launched globally very soon.
