Earthquake Of 5.9 Magnitude Hits Nepal, Tremors Felt In Parts Of Bihar

New Delhi: An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 on the Richter scale struck Nepal's capital Kathmandu and adjoining areas on Wednesday, news agency PTI reported.

According to the report, the epicentre of the quake was on the Nepal-China border in Sindhupal chowk district.

The earthquake was felt in the Kathmandu Valley and neighbouring districts at 3:07 pm on Wednesday, the report said.

As per reports, the tremors were felt in some parts of Bihar and West Champaran district as well.

There was no immediate report of any damage or casualties.

Earlier in the day, an earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale hit Ladakh, the National Center for Seismology said.

The epicentre of the tremor, recorded at 8.07 am, was 135 km north-east of Leh belt of the union territory. As per reports, the quake hit at a latitude of 34.92 degrees north and longitude of 78.72 degrees east at a depth of 10 km.

Earlier in April 2015, a devastating earthquake of 7.8-magnitude had rocked Nepal, killing nearly 9,000 people and injuring nearly 22,000 others. It also damaged over 800,000 houses and school buildings.

It is to be noted that the National Center for Seismology has recorded a total of 132 earthquakes over the last month - 35 in Indian territory, with Maharashtra witnessing the highest - seven in the month of September alone.
