Delhi: High Ammonia Levels In Yamuna To Hit Water Supply Tomorrow, Says DJB

New Delhi: Water supply will remain disrupted in many areas of Delhi on Friday due to a rise in ammonia levels in the Yamuna river. According to Delhi Jal Board officials, the ammonia level in the Yamuna river has increased in Wazirabad. Due to this, Wazirabad, Chandrawal, and Okhla water treatment plants have been affected. The utility said ammonia concentration in the river has expanded to two particles for each million (ppm) because of pollution from Haryana.

Water supply remained disrupted in several districts of the capital on Thursday evening as well. In such a situation, people had to face a lot of trouble. The acceptable maximum limit of ammonia in drinking water, as per the Bureau of Indian Standards, is 0.5 ppm. But at Wazirabad barrage it reached more than this. Whereas the capacity of the plants is to clean water up to 0.9 ppm.

According to Delhi Jal Board officials, this has happened due to the continuous pouring of industrial waste and other pollutants from Haryana into the water.

Water will be accessible at low pressure in parts of northeast Delhi, West Delhi, North Delhi, Central Delhi, and south Delhi, including Delhi Cantonment, and New Delhi Municipal Council regions.

The Chandrawal, Wazirabad and the Okhla WTPs have a treatment limit of 90 MGD, 135 MGD and 20 MGD, separately.
