Cyclone Yaas HIGHLIGHTS: Cyclonic storm Yaas is expected to make landfall near Balasore in north Odisha with a speed of 155 kmph to 165 kmph, gusting to 185 kmph on Wednesday May 26. North Odisha districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Mayurbhanj are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall today. The state governments are already on alert with the Indian Coast Guard mobilizing the forces and urging the people to not venture out in the sea. On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a review meet with the chief ministers of Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to discuss preparations in view of upcoming storm.

Bengal, Odisha Evacuate Lakhs Of People To Safety As 'Yaas' Nears Coast
West Bengal and Odisha have evacuated lakhs of people from vulnerable areas to safety as severe cyclonic storm 'Yaas' is nearing the coast and is expected to make landfall near Dhamra Port in Bhadrak district early on Wednesday morning.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that her administration has evacuated over nine lakh people to safe shelters.
The Odisha government, on the other hand, said it has moved over 2 lakh people from vulnerable areas in coastal districts to safety.

Andhra Pradesh CM Asks Collectors Of 3 Coastal Dists To Be On High Alert
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked Collectors of the three north coastal districts to be on a high alert in view of the Yaas cyclone that is likely to cross the Bay of Bengal coast in neighbouring Odisha on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister conducted a videoconference with Collectors of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts and reviewed the situation.
