Coronavirus Outbreak Shakes Indian Job Market: Here’s What You Can Do
The Indian job market took a hit with the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak across all sectors. During this dire situation, experts believe that people should keep looking for jobs as there are still companies that are hiring.
New Delhi: The Indian job market took a hit with the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak across all sectors, the worst hit being the start-ups. Many companies like Meesho, OYO, BharatPe, and Fab Hotels laid off a lot of their employees, while others like Droom and Bookmyshow have given salary cuts even after the government requested industries not to do so.
Estimates released by the National Sample Survey and Periodic Labour Force Surveys on March 31 suggested that over 136 million non-agricultural jobs are at immediate risk.
According to an IANS report, job portal Naukri.com on Monday launched the 'Step-Up' initiative that will highlight profiles of those who have recently been laid off or are available to join immediately.
The initiative aims to facilitate hiring and career progression, to help recruiters and job seekers in these uncertain times, the company said in a statement. There will be a live tracker highlighting companies and industries that are currently hiring along with active jobs to apply to.
During this dire situation, experts believe that people should keep looking for jobs as there are still companies that are hiring.
Here are some tips that experts recommend:
- Don’t lose hope because things seem bleak now, instead explore your options and strategize a way to expand your options.
- Rework on your CV/Portfolio and send it to potential places that are hiring. Restructure your resume based on the job you are applying for.
- Experts say that stepping out of the comfort zone and looking for income-earning jobs instead of choosing to grow career is what is important right now.
- This is also a good time to build relationships with recruiters as they might be less busy right now, amid work from home and mass shutdown in various cities. Jobseeker should make a phone call to remind them that you’re in the job search.
- Brush up on your skills and looking for jobs in places that weren’t your first preference.
- Considering the current situation it is best to have realistic expectations when it comes to the salary, it might be lower than what you have in mind. To beat the competition, you also need to prove that you are a stronger fit for the role.
