Centre Asks Maharashtra Government To Be On Alert As Covid-19 Cases Surge In China & South Korea

According to the state health department, 394 people recovered from the disease on Friday while the active number of cases stood at 1,680.

New Delhi: Taking stalk of rising Covid-19 cases in China, South Korea and European countries, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, on Saturday, said that the state government is on alert over the situation, reports news agency ANI. 

We have received a letter from the central government to be on alert as there is a surge in COVID cases across European Countries, South Korea and China. Accordingly, our health department had issued a letter to DCs to be cautious and take necessary steps," Tope said.

 

On Friday, Maharashtra had reported 171 new cases of Covid-19 with three fatalities. 

According to the state health department, 394 people recovered from the disease on Friday while the active number of cases stood at 1,680. With the new cases, the infection tally in the state reached 78,72,203. The new fatalities pushed the COVID death toll in Maharashtra to 1,43,765.

An Omicron outbreak in China has triggered a surge in cases with the country reporting two deaths on Saturday — first in more than a year. The neighbouring country reported 4,051 new infections on Saturday. 

Meanwhile, South Korea has reported the most number of cases globally with 6,00,000 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday. Interestingly, the country simultaneously is reporting lowest virus death rates globally.
