A group of farmers reportedly vandalised an Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) and pelted stones at the building. They also set vehicles on fire.

On Monday, when police officers and a fire truck reached the location to manage the situation, they stopped people from entering the market. Later, the police dispersed the crowd and gained control of the area.

Taking to reporters, Home Minister G Parameshwara said that chilli prices had gone down from Rs 20,000 per quintal to Rs 8,000 per quintal in a single day and that led to a commotion in Haveri APMC market. It is being checked whether this kind of price fall has happened in all the APMC markets or only in the Haveri market, according to PTI.

The CM asked to submit a report to identify the causes of the price drop. He mentioned that subsequent steps would be determined by the findings of the report.
