Budget Session: Govt Wants To Alter History, Is Fearful Of Future & Mistrusts Present, Says Mahua Moitra
Parliament Budget Session 2022: Mahua Moitra during her speech in Lok Sabha lashed out at the government saying, "current govt wants to alter history".
New Delhi: All India Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moita on Thursday slammed the Union government saying that the government wants to “alter” the history of the country.
“This government wants to alter history. They are fearful of the future and they mistrust the present,” TMC MP said.
Meanwhile, she also termed the mention of freedom fighters in the President's address as "lip service".
This govt wants to alter history. They're fearful of the future & they mistrust the present. The President, early on in his address, speaks about freedom fighters who secured India's rights. But this is just lip service: TMC MP Mahua Moitra in Lok Sabha #BudgetSession2022 pic.twitter.com/n7URLstSAv

"Would Netaji have approved of a Haridwar Dharam Sansad that issues blood-curdling calls for Muslim genocide," she asked.
"The President's address refers to Netaji on multiple occasions. I will remind this Republic that this is the same Netaji who said that the government of India should have an absolutely neutral and impartial attitude towards all religions.
While giving her speech on the Motion of Thanks to the President, TMC leader cited a speech Subhas Chandra Bose made in Comilla (now Bangladesh) in 1938, Moitra said, "Communalism has raised its ugly head in an all-out nakedness".
While making a sharp attack on the Modi government, Mahua said that this government wants to change history. They fear the future and distrust the present.
“I stand here today to ask the most important question that faces us all - what is the kind of republic that we want, what is the India that we want today?
“Ours is a living constitution, it breathes as long as we are willing to breathe life into it. Otherwise, it is just a piece of paper, black and white, that can be smudged into shades of grey by any majoritarian government,” Moitra said.
"You [government] fear an India which is comfortable in its own skin. Which is comfortable with conflicting realities. So, you fear an India where a Jain boy can hide from home and enjoy a Kathi Kebab on a street cart in Ahmedabad. So what do you do? You forbid non-vegetarian street food in Gujarat's municipalities," Mahua Moitra said.
Before addressing Lok Sabha, Mahua had launched an attack on BJP in her Tweet saying, "Am speaking this evening in Lok Sabha on President’s Address. Just wanted to give early heads up to @BJP to get heckler team ready & read up on imaginary points of order. Drink some gaumutra shots too".

"This battle of 80 per cent vs 20 per cent that this government has started risks destroying our republic."
She added that the onus lies in the people who say that this nation needs change. "You cannot choose the time of battle," Mahua Moitra said.
