SC Scheduled To Hear Over 200 PILs Including Against CAA
The Supreme Court on Monday will hear over 200 Public Interest Litigations (PILs), including several petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
A bench headed by Chief Justice U U Lalit will hear the petitions challenging the validity of the CAA. According to the list of businesses uploaded on the apex court's website, Chief Justice and Justice S Ravindra Bhat has posted 220 petitions for hearing, including the main petition of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) against the CAA.
The apex court will also hear several public interest litigations pending for a few years. A bench headed by the Chief Justice is also scheduled to hear some other PILs, including one filed by an organization 'We the Women of India'.
Under the CAA, there is a provision to give Indian citizenship to non-Muslim migrants who came to India from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan on or before December 31, 2014. Refusing to stay the implementation of the law, the apex court on December 18, 2019, issued notice to the central government on the petitions concerned.
Week-Long Onam Celebration To Conclude
The week-long Onam celebrations organised by the Kerala government will conclude with colourful, cultural pageantry on September 12, the State Tourism Department said on Sunday.
Chief Minister of the State Pinarayi Vijayan would flag off the cultural procession, marking the finale of the festival that began last Tuesday.
"The show will offer vivid glimpses at the diverse artistic and cultural heritage of the country and the State, featuring spectacular floats and a variety of classical and folk traditions," General Education Minister V Sivankutty told reporters.

Supreme Court adjourns the hearing for September 19 on a batch of petitions challenging the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 201, ANI reported.
