Home Minister Reviews J-K Security Situation; Calls High-Level Meeting On June 16
Union Home Minister Amit Shah assessed the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday in the wake of several terror incidents, including recent attacks on a pilgrim's bus, sources said.
On June 16, he called on a high-level meeting to be attended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, top officials of the Army, CRPF, and others to review the prevailing situation in the Union Territory, and steps taken to check terror incidents.
During Sunday's meeting, the home minister is slated to take stock of the preparedness for the annual Amarnath Yatra which will begin on June 29, PTI cites sources report.
Terrorists struck at four places in the Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir over the past four days, killing nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan, and leaving seven security personnel and several others injured. Two suspected Pakistani terrorists were also killed in an encounter with security forces in Kathua district and a large quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from them.
Dhankhar To Inaugurate 'Prerna Sthal' On Sunday
Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar is to inaugurate 'Prerna Sthal' on Sunday, which will house all statues of freedom fighters and other leaders that were earlier placed at different places in the Parliament complex.
An official statement stated that all members of Parliament have been invited to the event where the outgoing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and other dignitaries are slated to be present.
While the Congress has lashed out at the decision to remove the statues from their existing place, the Lok Sabha secretariat has remarked that their placements at different places made it difficult for visitors to see them properly.
"The 'Prerna Sthal' has been constructed so that the dignitaries and other visitors coming to Parliament House Complex could conveniently see and pay tributes at these statues in one place." "An action plan has been made to make the life stories and messages of these great Indians available to the visitors through new technology," it said, PTI reported.
