Final Hearing On Bilkis Bano Case: SC To Examine Pleas Against Convicts' Remission Today: 

The Supreme Court had scheduled Monday (August 7) as the date for the commencement of the final hearing on a series of pleas challenging the remission granted to all 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang rape case and the murder of seven of her family members during the 2002 Gujarat riots. Justices BV Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan confirmed that the pleadings have been concluded and all convicts have received notices. The bench directed all parties to submit concise written submissions, synopses, and a list of dates ahead of the upcoming hearing.

Supreme Court To Hear Plea Challenging Validity Of Caste Survey In Bihar On Monday: 

The Supreme Court is set to hear a petition challenging the Patna High Court's August 1 verdict, which upheld the validity of the caste survey in Bihar. The high court had dismissed multiple petitions opposing the survey that was ordered last year and commenced earlier this year. The petition, filed by the NGO 'Ek Soch Ek Paryas,' has been scheduled for hearing on August 7 before a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti. Akhilesh Kumar, a Nalanda resident, has also filed a petition challenging the high court's decision, claiming that the state government's notification for the survey is unconstitutional.

PM Modi To Participate In 9th National Handloom Day Celebration On August 7: 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join the celebration of the 9th National Handloom Day at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, Delhi, on Monday, according to a statement from his office.  The National Handloom Day is celebrated annually on August 7, in commemoration of the Swadeshi Movement's launch on the same date in 1905, which advocated for indigenous industries and handloom weavers.

SC To Hear Pleas Against Uttarakhand HC's Order On Haldwani Encroachments Today: 

The Supreme Court is set to hear a case on Monday regarding the Uttarakhand High Court's directions for the removal of encroachments from 29 acres of land claimed by the railways in Haldwani. The apex court had previously stayed the high court's December 20 order, and the pleas challenging it are listed for hearing on August 7 before a bench comprising Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia. The interim order to stay the high court's directions will remain in effect during the pendency of the appeals before the Supreme Court.

Police have registered a case against six persons for allegedly beating up a social worker, who is also head of a cobblers' association, and trying to extort money from him in Maharashtra's Thane city, an official said on Monday, as reported by PTI.
