At least five people were killed in Barguna, Narail, Sirajganj districts and island district of Bhola, AFP reported citing disaster ministry control room spokesman after Cyclone 'Sitrang' crossed the Bangladesh coast near Barisal between 9.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Monday after skirting the West Bengal coast, the meteorological department said here.

Sitrang, which is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm, will bring in its wake heavy to very heavy rain and wind reaching speed of 90 to 100 kmph, gusting to 110 kmph, in the coastal districts of South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas and East Midnapore on Monday, the weather office said.

Indian Cities To Witness Partial Solar Eclipse

The last solar eclipse of the year will occur on October 25. It will be a partial solar eclipse and shall be visible from western Asia, northern Africa, most regions of Europe, the Middle East, and the regions covering the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Indian Ocean. The solar eclipse will begin in India before sunset and will be visible from most places. For people living in the national capital, Delhi, the partial solar eclipse will begin at 2:28 pm IST. 

In the north-western parts of India, the Moon will obscure approximately 40 to 50 per cent of the Sun at that time of maximum eclipse. The obscuration of the Sun will be less than 40 to 50 per cent in other regions of the country. 

The partial solar eclipse will not be seen from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and some regions of Northeast India, including Aizawl, Dibrugarh, Imphal, Itanagar, Kohima, Sivasagar, Silchar, and Tamelong, among others, according to the Ministry of Earth Science. 

For people living in Delhi, the Moon will appear to obscure 44 per cent of the Sun. Meanwhile, for people in Mumbai, the obscuration of the Sun by the Moon will be 24 per cent. 

The duration of the eclipse for people living in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata will be one hour 13 minutes, one hour 19 minutes, 31 minutes, and 12 minutes, respectively. 

In Srinagar, the solar eclipse will begin at 4:14 pm IST, and end at 5:20 pm IST.

At least 35 people were killed and several homes destroyed as cyclone Sitrang ravaged Bangladesh’s southern coastlines and central parts after it made a landfall overnight, according to officials and media reports. Sitrang completed its landfall and weakened to a tropical depression over Bangladesh in the early hours of Tuesday. Around 10 million people were without power in districts along the coasts.

Breaking News Live: Senior Bureaucrat Amit Yadav Appointed As NDMC Chairman

Senior bureaucrat Amit Yadav has been appointed as the chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), according to an order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday, as reported by PTI.

Prior to this appointment, Yadav, a 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the AGMUT cadre, was posted as the additional secretary, department of commerce in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Yadav succeeds Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, a 1990-batch officer, as the civic body's chairman.
