Breaking News LIVE: Court Sends 'Bulli Bai' App Case Accused Vishal Kumar To Police Custody Till Jan 10

Background

Breaking News LIVE, January 4, 2022: Few weeks ahead of the assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Manipur today to inaugurate 13 projects and lay foundation stones of nine more.

The 22 projects taken together are worth Rs 4,800 crore.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made in Manipur for today's programme, which will be attended by Governor La Ganesan, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh.

Meanwhile, insurgent outfits have registered their protest against Modi's visit to the state. CorCom, an umbrella body of several militant organisations, said in a release that a state-wide shut down will come into effect from 1 am of Tuesday and continue till PM's departure.

The group claimed that attempts were being made to "expand colonial administration" in Manipur.

Another outfit, National Revolutionary Front, Manipur (NRFM), said that there was no reason to celebrate the visit of the prime minister to Manipur.

Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi recorded a value of 369 on Tuesday morning, indicating ‘very poor’ air quality, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR)-India. The AQI is expected to improve slightly as the weather department has predicted rain in the national capital over the next two days.

"High winds and intermittent rains are likely during January 5 to January 8 that are expected to improve AQI significantly to 'lower end of very poor' through strong dispersion and wet deposition. Mixing layer height continues to be about 1 km," SAFAR said.

On Monday, Delhi recorded an AQI of 389. The AQI in neighbouring areas was: Ghaziabad (366), Gurugram (355), Noida (346), and Faridabad (340).

The maximum temperature in Delhi on Monday was recorded at 21.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.

Breaking News LIVE: Centre Opposes Swamy's Plea In HC seeking To Set Aside Air India Disinvestment Process

The Centre on Tuesday opposed a plea moved by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in the Delhi High Court, seeking to quash the Air India disinvestment process and set aside the approvals given to it by authorities as the methodology adopted was "arbitrary, mala fide and corrupt".
A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jyoti Singh heard the arguments put forward by Swamy, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and senior advocate Harish Salve, who appeared in the matter on behalf of AirAsia, and said it will pass an order on the petition on January 6.

It also asked the counsel for the Centre and the other respondents to file a short note during the day and granted liberty to Swamy to file a short note by Wednesday.

The court further asked the petitioner to file legible copies of certain documents annexed with the petition.

Swamy, a Rajya Sabha MP, has sought to set aside and revoke any action or decision or grant of any further approvals, permissions or permits by the authorities with respect to the Air India disinvestment process.
