Japan Rolls Out eVisa System For Indian Tourists, Here's How You Can Apply

Japan has rolled out eVisas for Indian travellers. Here's how you can also apply for the same.

From April 1 onwards, Indian travellers planning a trip to Japan do not need to apply for a regular visa and take the hassle of making a checklist of documents and regular visits to the embassy as the peace-loving country has started the issuance of eVisas for Indian tourists. Now Indian travellers can simply apply for one by following some simple steps online to secure an eVisa. Read on to know more.

This much awaited development will enable people to apply for visas electronically through Japan Visa Application Centers managed by VFS Global, the world's largest visa outsourcing and technology services specialist for governments and diplomatic missions worldwide.

Under this newly introduced scheme, travellers can obtain a single-entry short-term visa tailored for tourism purposes. The eVisas allows a maximum stay of 90 days in Japan. The eligibility for this eVisa extends to both Indian citizens and foreign nationals living in India.

The application procedure remains akin to the previous process, requiring applicants to submit their applications to the Visa Application Centers operated by VFS Global. However, instead of receiving a conventional visa sticker affixed to their passports upon approval.

Upon arrival at Japanese airports, travellers are expected to present a "visa issuance notice" on their mobile devices.

It is is to be noted that it is essential to have access to the internet during this stage. Alternative formats, including PDFs, photos, screenshots, or printed copies, will not be accepted.

Here's How To Display The "Visa Issuance Notice":

Step 1: During airport check-in, travellers will be prompted to exhibit a "visa issuance notice" on their devices. The travel agency will furnish a "Visa Issuance Notice" (in either printed or PDF format) containing a two-dimensional barcode.

Step 2: Using their device, travellers should scan the two-dimensional barcode and input the necessary details to display the notice.

Step 3: Upon tapping "Display," the electronic "visa issuance notice" will appear. Please note that the notice will be accompanied by a countdown timer at the top right corner.

Step 4: This timer is a proof of the notice's validity throughout the journey.
