'Wouldn't Take Them Even for Free!': Nike's Rs 14k Recyclable Sneakers Spark Outrage

While Nike's ISPA Mindbody sneakers have divided opinions, it is evident that their distinct design has sparked passionate discussions within the sneaker community. Check it out here.

Nike, the renowned athletic footwear brand, is finding itself at the center of criticism from shoe enthusiasts over their latest offering, the ISPA Mindbody sneaker. These sneakers have garnered attention for their worn-out appearance, resembling the style of Yeezy shoes rather than Nike's usual sleek designs. The mud-colored trainers, also available in neon green, have faced substantial online backlash, with many expressing their distaste for the unconventional aesthetic, deeming them unfashionable for streetwear.

One of the key selling points of the ISPA Mindbody sneaker is its recyclability and ease of disassembly, making them environmentally friendly. Nike has emphasised that the shoes are constructed without glue, utilising cords to hold them together, allowing for effortless recycling when returned to a Nike store.

Despite Nike's attempt to position these adventurous sneakers as the epitome of relaxation and comfort, sneaker enthusiasts on Twitter have been quick to compare them to discarded items found in landfills. Names such as "Dumpster Dunks," "Nike Air Scraps," and "The Homeless 1s" have emerged, further highlighting the negative reception. Disgusted customers on Facebook have likened the shoes to the lungs of heavy smokers, using terms like "mouldy" and "hideous" to describe them.

However, amidst the sea of criticism, a few positive comments about the ISPA Mindbody sneakers have surfaced. On the product listing page, two reviewers expressed their satisfaction with the footwear. One anonymous buyer praised their comfort and durability, considering them one of their most comfortable pairs of shoes. Another reviewer echoed this sentiment but cautioned against walking on wet surfaces due to the small ventilation holes in the sole that may result in wet feet and socks.

The ISPA trainers embody an anti-fashion aesthetic, deliberately sporting a rugged and raw appearance, deviating from the traditional polished and pristine footwear. However, the sneakers seem to have attracted attention primarily for their shock factor rather than their appeal to the elitist fashion crowd, much like other recent shoe releases that often find their way onto the feet of celebrities.

While Nike's ISPA Mindbody sneakers have divided opinions, it is evident that their distinct design has sparked passionate discussions within the sneaker community. Whether the controversy surrounding these shoes will ultimately impact their popularity remains to be seen, but for now, they are undeniably generating significant buzz.
