Navratri 2023: Dos And Don'ts During Navratri- All You Need To Know

Fasting during this period is considered auspicious, promising joy, prosperity, and good health, while also granting the strength to overcome life's challenges and conquer adversaries.

Navratri, a widely celebrated and highly revered festival in India, holds a special place in the hearts of people across the country. This festival, observed with great enthusiasm, is a time when devotees pay homage to the nine distinct avatars of Maa Durga. Fasting during this period is considered auspicious, promising joy, prosperity, and good health, while also granting the strength to overcome life's challenges and conquer adversaries. This year, Navratri will be celebrated from October 15th and will conclude on October 25th with Vijaydashami.

Here are some essential guidelines that all devotees should adhere to during Navratri. While the do's hold immense significance in the worship of Goddess Durga, the don'ts are equally crucial and demand careful consideration.

Dos During Navratri:

  • Begin your day by rising early and taking a cleansing bath, a practice that pleases Goddess Durga. It is also a way to honour Goddess Laxmi, who values cleanliness.
  • Maintain a continuous Akhand Jyot (eternal flame) in front of Goddess Durga throughout the festival.
  • Consume Satvic food, devoid of ingredients such as onions and garlic. Eat only one meal a day.
  • Offer daily bhog (food offering) to the Goddess, or if that's not possible, present milk, fruits, or dry fruits.
  • Visit temples or conduct daily Puja by lighting lamps and reciting Durga Chalisa in the morning and evening.
  • Extend gifts to young girls, particularly those under the age of 10, as they are regarded as incarnations of the Goddess.
  • Adorn clean and neat attire. During Navratri, maintain an elevated level of cleanliness.
  • Chant all the mantras and slokas of Maa Durga, and earnestly seek purification from past karmas.

Don'ts During Navratri:

  • Refrain from cutting your nails, visiting beauty salons, or trimming your hair during this period.
  • Resist the temptations of fashion and materialistic desires, and embrace a simple and modest lifestyle.
  • Avoid engaging in sewing or knitting activities during the Navratras.
  • Abstain from falsehood and harsh words towards others, as these actions are unacceptable and can lead to negative consequences.
  • Keep your home, especially the Puja Room/Place and the Kitchen, free from pollution. Maintain cleanliness and infuse these spaces with positive energy.
  • Throughout the entire nine days of Navratri, avoid wearing slippers within your house, particularly in the puja area.

Wish you a very Happy Navratri 2023
