Know Why People From Across Country Visit Vidur Kuti In UP's Bijnor On Occasion Of Janmashtami

Krishna Janmashtami 2021: Vidur Kuti in Bijnor is the historical land where Shri Krishna had eaten bathua greens with Mahatma Vidhura.

New Delhi: Vidur Kuti of Bijnor district holds great mythological importance. It is believed that when Mahatma Vidur had left Hastinapura, Lord Krishna came here to meet him. The Bhagavad Gita contains a clear verse that Lord Krishna had eaten green vegetables at Vidhura's house instead of mega 56 bhog offered by Duryodhana.

Rajkumar, the priest of Vidur Kuti temple, said that Vidur Kuti located in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, is a historical land where, leaving Duryodhana's dry fruits, Shri Krishna had eaten Bathua (a green leafy vegetable) at Mahatma Vidur's place with great fervor. It is also described in the Mahabharata. People from all corners of the country come here to celebrate the festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami.

Mythological Story of Vidur Kuti

There is a saying about Vidhura Kuti that Lord Krishna had come to meet Vidhura Kaka at Vidur Kuti. The line 'Duryodhana Ki Mewa Tyagi Saag Vidur Ghar Khayo' mentioned in the Mahabharata is associated with this historical site.

It is said that before the Mahabharata war, Dhritarashtra had requested Vidhura to suggest a strategy to avert the Mahabharata war. But Dhritarashtra's sons could not adopt the strategy making the Mahabharata war unavoidable. Mahatma Vidur then left Hastinapura and built his hut on an island on the banks of the Ganges. The same hut later came to be known as Vidur Kuti.

The bathua saag that Lord Krishna ate at the taposthali of Mahatma Vidur remains green for 12 months at Vidur's Kuti. Although the Ganga stream flows about a kilometer away from Vidur Kuti, the Ganga water comes to the taposthali of Vidura once a year.

West Bengal News: Suvendu Adhikari alleges TMC attack in Purulia, stages midnight protest at police stationWest Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday alleged that his convoy was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Purulia district, triggering panic and chaos at the spot. Adhikari was returning after attending a programme in Purulia when the incident reportedly took place. Following the alleged attack, he raised slogans and proceeded to the local police station, where he staged a peaceful sit-in protest for nearly five hours, extending until after midnight. Adhikari accused the ruling TMC of orchestrating a planned attack on his vehicle and alleged the involvement of the state police. He claimed that the incident reflected a nexus between “criminal elements and the administration,” and held Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who also heads the state home department, responsible for the situation. In strong remarks, he alleged that files were stolen and intimidation was carried out by individuals linked to the ruling party. The BJP leader also shared posts on social media platform X late at night, reiterating his allegations and stating that the fight against what he termed “political violence” in West Bengal would continue. After the incident, Adhikari reached the police station, where he remained seated in protest for several hours, demanding action against those responsible. The TMC, however, has not yet issued an official response to the allegations.
