Happy Holi 2022: Enjoy This Lesser Known Holi Song From 1980 Bengali Film To Celebrate Festival Of Colours
Composed by Hemant Kumar, the chorus Hindi-Bengali mix song was part of 1980 film Dadar Kirti, which was a huge box office hit and is still remembered for its music.
New Delhi: Holi is incomplete without its foot-tapping songs that make people groove to the music. While it is colours that mark the festival, it is just not Holi without the songs especially created for the day — whether folk songs, regional songs or those from films.
Hindi films have given many chartbuster songs that continue to rule the Holi playlists everywhere, but there were some wonderful Holi songs composed for Bengali films too. While these numbers are mainly Bengali, there is at least one song that is mix of Hindi and Bengali and is very popular with a very catchy tune.
Composed by famous music director Hemant Kumar, who was known as Hemanta Mukhopadhyay in his home state West Bengal, the chorus song was part of 1980 film Dadar Kirti, which continues to be remembered for its music.
Sung by Hemant Kumar, Shakti Thakur and others, "Saat Suron Ki Bandh Payeliya...Holi Aayi, Holi Aayi Re..." was a song picturised on a large group of people celebrating Holi in their small town in Bihar.
The Hindi-Bengali lyrics by Pulak Bandopadhyay and Hridayesh Pande mix well, harmoniously with the plot of the film, which was based on author Saradindu Bandopadhyay's unpublished novel that went by the same name.

Dadar Kirti, directed by Tarun Majumdar, had late actor-MP Tapas Paul, Debashree Roy, Ayan Banerjee, Mohua Roychoudhury and Anup Kumar in lead roles. The film was said to have a huge box office success after its release. The story revolved around a simpleton but dim-witted youth (Tapas Paul) who is exiled by his father to his uncle’s house in the Bihar town after he fails to clear his BA exams even after three attempts. The film shows how he is made fun of and harassed there, how he falls in love with a strong-willed woman, and how he wins everyone's hearts with his simplicity.
