Anant Chaturdashi 2022: The 10-day Ganeshotsav or Ganesh-Utsav which began on Ganesha Chaturthi comes to an end today. It is also celebrated as Anant Chaturdashi. Anant Chaturdashi is observed on the 14th day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. The day is also called Chaturdashi (Chatur means four and Dashi means 10).
The day is significant as the Ganesh-Utsav comes to an end with the immersion of Lord Ganesha in water. It is believed to bring happiness and prosperity to the house. The day also holds significance for Hindus as Lord Vishnu, who is called the preserver of the universe is worshipped on this day.
Some devotees also perform Ganesha Visarjan on the third, fifth, or seventh day as well. The immersion rituals are not only performed for the closing of the festival but also symbolises the truth about life and death. The rituals signify the inevitability of the cycle of birth and death. The day is also known as Vinayaka Nimajjanam in Telugu speaking regions.
Devotees offer flowers, modak, haldi-kumkum, roli, paan, etc. to the Lord and also perform aarti after the Ganesh idol is carried for visarjan
