Govardhan Puja 2022: All You Need To Know About The Puja Samagri And Essentials Required

Before the major puja day, devotees should assemble all of the Govardhan puja samagri. Based on their health, some individuals may observe a full or partial fast.

New Delhi: Govardhan Puja honours the occurrence from the Bhagavata Puran when Shri Krishna raised Govardhan Hill to protect the residents of Vrindavan from the excessive downpours. Therefore, worshippers donate a "mountain" of food to symbolise the hill. It is a significant festival, particularly for Vaishnavas.

Preparation and Samagri required for the puja:

Before the major puja day, devotees should assemble all of the Govardhan puja samagri. Based on their health, some individuals may observe a full or partial fast. For this puja, one has to purchase all of the following puja samagri.

  • Items of decoration for Lord Krishna
  • Two sugarcane sticks
  • Grains, Ghee, Dhal, Batasha, and Chawal
  • Roli and Moli (Sacred Thread)
  • Copper/Brass Kalash and Earthen Lamp
  • Mud or Cow Dung
  • Payasam and Naivedyam 
  • Akshata (Raw unbroken rice mixed with turmeric)
  • Paachamrita (Milk, Sugar, Ghee, Honey, Curd)
  • A silver coin for Dakshina
  • A book for Krishna Puja
  • Betel Nuts, Mango Leaves, and Betel Leaf
  • A variety of sweets, such as Puris, Laddus, Rasagullas, Sandesh, and Halva

Constituents of Chhappan Bhog:

A meal of 56 food items known as the Chhappan bhog is presented to Shri Krishna. There are several delectable dishes in it, all cooked with pure desi ghee and without onions or garlic.

The exact number of components in the Chappan Bhog is 56.  People offer Krishna 56 (7x8) food preparations because he missed eight meals a day while lifting the mountain for a week (seven days).

The Chhappan Bhog usually consists of the following:

Bhakt (Rice), Soop (Dal), Praleh (Chutney), Sadika (Kadhi), Dadhishakaja ( Kadhi made of Shakh), Sikhrini, Svaleh (sweet drink) Balka (Bati), Ikshu Kherani (Murabba), Trikon, Batak (Vada), Madhu Sheershak, Phenika, Parishtachcha, Shatpatra, Sadhidrak, Chakram, Childika, Sudha Kundalika, Dhritapur, Vayupur Chandrakala, Dadhi (curd), Sthooli , Luangpuri, Khand Mandal, Godhum (Daliya), Parikha, Suphaladhaya, Dadhiroop, Modak, Shaakh, Saudhaan, Mandaka, Payasam, Dadhi (Raita), Goghrit , Makhan, Manduri, Kupika, Papad, Shaktika, Lasika, Sukta, Sanghaya, Suphala, Elaichi, Phal (fruits), Paan, Mohanbhog, Lavan, Kashaya, Madhur, Tikt, Kattu, Amla
