New Delhi: Delhi Police inducted a new batch of 30 dogs to bolster the strength of its canine squad here today in presence of Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung and city Police Commissioner Alok Kumar Verma. The batch, which contains canines of breeds such as Labrador Retrievers and German Shepherds, would take the total strength of Delhi police's dog squad to 60. "Of the 30 dogs inducted, 20 are tracker dogs and 10 are explosive experts. We require these dogs in crime scenes.. We purchased them from Army establishment. Since they were trained by the army fully, they cost around Rs. 1.7 lakh per dog," said Taj Hasan, Special Commissioner of Police (crime), Delhi Police. He said that the trained dogs are allocated to different districts across the national capital and are called to the crime scene as required. "They are spread over different districts. We use them for anti-sabotage operations, building security, crime scene and for different calls," he added.
