Second Positive Case Of Monkeypox Reported In Kannur District, Confirms Kerala Health Minister Veena George

New Delhi: Second positive case of Monkeypox has been confirmed on Monday in Kerala's Kannur district, said Health Minister Veena George. Earlier on Thursday (July 14), Kerala reported the first confirmed case of monkeypox, according to news agency ANI.

"The 31-year-old man from Kannur is currently undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College. The patient's health condition is reported to be satisfactory. Those in close contact with him have been put under surveillance," Kerala Health Minister Veena George said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

"The samples of the patient have been sent for testing and the infection can only be confirmed after the results are out," District Medical Officer (DMO) Narayan Naik was quoted by PTI as saying.

The 31-year-old man returned to Kerala from Dubai on Saturday (July 16). He got admitted to the Pariyaram Medical College and Hospital after experiencing Monkeypox symptoms. Earlier, the patient was kept in an isolation ward at the medical college hospital.

Earlier, the first case of Monkeypox was reported in Kerala's Kollam district. The man from Kollam had returned from UAE on July 12 and tested positive for the virus on Thursday (July 14).
