WATCH: Heavy Rainfall Causes Havoc, Inundates Low-Lying Areas In Kerala

The IMD has specifically issued a 'red alert' for five districts including Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki.

Heavy rainfall continued to lash several parts of Kerala on Thursday, resulting in widespread flooding and disruption. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for various districts due to the intense downpour.

So far, four people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the state. The IMD has specifically issued a 'red alert' for five districts: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki. A red alert indicates heavy to extremely heavy rain of over 20 cm in 24 hours. An orange alert, on the other hand, indicates very heavy rain ranging from 11 cm to 20 cm, while a yellow alert signifies heavy rainfall between 6 cm and 11 cm.

Kochi has been particularly hard hit, with several areas facing severe inundation. Notably, the premises of the Guruvayoor temple were also flooded, causing significant disruption. In Thrissur, severe waterlogging has been reported, and the state government has requested the Thrissur Corporation Secretary to submit a report on the reasons for the sudden flooding in the city.

Severe waterlogging witnessed in several areas of #Thrissur after heavy rains in the region.

Three people lost their lives in Kerala's Pathanamthitta earlier today following heavy rainfall in the region.
