Kerala Govt Moves SC Against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan Over Delay In Clearing Bills

The petition moved by Kerala government said three Bills have been pending before the Governor for more than 2 years.

The Kerala government moved a writ petition in the Supreme Court against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan for inaction on his part regarding eight Bills passed by the state legislature on Thursday. The petition said three Bills have been pending before the Governor for more than 2 years.

According to ANI, Kerala government moved a writ petition in the Supreme Court against Governor Arif Mohammed Khan for inaction on his part regarding eight Bills passed by the state legislature and presented to him for his assent under Article 200 of the Constitution. The petition says three Bills have been pending before the Governor for more than 2 years.

 
 
 
According to IANS, the plea said, "The conduct of the Governor, as would presently be demonstrated, threatens to defeat and subvert the very fundamentals and basic foundations of our Constitution, including the rule of law and democratic good governance." 

"Grave injustice is being done to the people of the State, as also to its representative democratic institutions (i.e. the State Legislature and the Executive) by the Governor, by keeping Bills pending for long periods of time," stated the plea filed through advocate C.K. Sasi.

On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu government moved the SC against Governor RN Ravi over his alleged delay in clearing bills and government orders that were passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The writ petition by the state also sought a direction to the Governor to clear bills, files etc within a specific time.
