Kerala Doctors Protest Against CPI(M) MLA Over Her 'Rude' Remark
Following this, Kerala Government Medical Officer's Association (KGMOA) lodged a complaint against the MLA.
A CPI (M) MLA K Shanthakumari ran into a controversy by allegedly making rude remarks against doctors on duty in a government hospital in Kerala. The incident took place while Kongad MLA Shanthakumari visited Palakkad District Hospital with her sick husband on Thursday evening.
According to IANS. a doctor at the district hospital said, "The legislator behaved in an angry manner and passed remarks that no wonder doctors are being taken to task and it happens because of the rude behaviour towards patients."
"A legislator speaking like this and that too in front of other patients creates a very bad impression," she said.
On Thursday, the doctors said that Shanthakumari came to the hospital with her sick husband. She then introduced herself and the doctors started the examination.
The doctor said that the MLA's husband had a fever so the medicos started prescribing the medicines.
However, the MLA asked the doctor why her husband was not examined using medical devices.
Further, the MLA, as per a report on Mathrubhumi, reportedly said that it "wouldn't be a surprise if doctors come under attack yet again."
However, Santhakumari denied the allegation. She said, "Yes. It's true that I asked if they do not want to examine the patient using medical devices, but I never ever said any other thing that is now being circulated."
Following this, Kerala Government Medical Officer's Association (KGMOA) lodged a complaint against the MLA.
The incident created controversy since the doctors are already staging a protest condemning the brutal murder of an on-duty doctor Vandana Das at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital last week. Vandana Das was stabbed to death by an accused who was brought to the hospital for medical checkup. The accused who was not handcuffed got access to the scissors and when Vandana Das was attending to his wounds he stabbed her continuously multiple times.
