According to ANI, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) also registered a case against former Karnataka CM HD Kumaraswamy. An FIR has been registered against the former CM at Jayanagar Vigilance Station based on the complaint filed by the BESCOM officials.

Earlier, the Congress had alleged that HD Kumaraswamy had illegally connected the Diwali lights of his residence in JP Nagar, Bengaluru directly from an electric pole.

In reply, Kumaraswamy claimed that an unauthorized connection was the responsibility of a private decorator, not himself. Upon discovering it, he said that he promptly had it removed and procured a legitimate electricity connection from the house's meter board.

Taunting Kumaraswamy, Congress suggested that he should have applied for the government's 'Gruha Jyoti' scheme, which offers 200 units of free electricity a month for residential connections. The party accused him of not adhering to the scheme's single electricity meter policy.

In response to the taunts, Kumaraswamy downplayed the issue as trivial and accused the Congress of creating unnecessary drama. The ruling party raised questions about his priorities, wondering if he deemed it necessary to light up his home during a drought and if he intended to benefit from pilfered electricity intended for farmers.
