Karnataka: Time Has Come For Encounters, Will Ensure There Are No More Murders, Says Minister

On Friday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the Karnataka government will hand over BJP Yuva Morcha Worker Praveen Kumar Nettaru’s murder case to NIA.

New Delhi: With two murders in two days rocking the Karnataka government, a minister said the time had come for encounters and the government would ensure no such crimes take place in future, news agency PTI reported. The remarks come in the wake of two murders in the state – BJP activist Praveen Kumar Nettaru and another Muslim man – that took place in a week.

In the wake of the BJP activist's murder, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had earlier said that the government would adopt Yogi Adityanath’s model to deal with communal forces if need be.

“Without giving any opportunity, merciless action will be taken. We are ready for encounter (killings). We have already communicated to our Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and the State government,” PTI quoted Karnataka Higher education Minister Ashwath Narayan as saying.

"Some instigators are testing our patience. Hence, our government and the Chief minister have given a clear message. In the coming days, we will make arrangements that the criminals should tremble to even think or dream of committing such murders. Time has come for encounter (killings). Our government will take stringent action. We will not give any chance for such activities by forming special squads. We will initiate measures to save innocent people," he added.

Meanwhile, after two murders in a week in the southern state, CM Bommai’s government decided to transfer case of the death of Nettaru to National Investigation Agency (NIA).

On Friday, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the Karnataka government will hand over BJP Yuva Morcha Worker Praveen Kumar Nettaru’s murder case to NIA.

The CM said, “I have discussed the case with the DGP. There is suspicion of it being an organised crime with involvement of people from the other states."

Notably, the police have also formed special teams to crack the case of Mohammed Fazil Mangalpet who was murdered on Thursday in Surathkal town. After his death, Section 144 was imposed in parts of Dakshina Kannada district to avoid any untoward incidents.
