Karnataka: JDS Leader Hacked To Death In Hassan, Security Beefed Up

A Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) councillor Prashant Nagaraj was allegedly murdered at Laxmipura Extension in Karnataka's Hassan on Wednesday evening

New Delhi: A Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) councillor Prashant Nagaraj was allegedly murdered at Laxmipura Extension in Karnataka's Hassan on Wednesday evening. The 42-year-old councillor was elected to the council on JD(S) ticket from Hassan's ward no 16. Security beefed up after the alleged murder of the councillor. He is survived by wife and two children.

Hassan SP R Srinivas Gowda said that the three teams were formed to nab the culprits. "Security increased near mortuary at Hassan after JDS Municipal member Prashant was killed last night by miscreants. 3 teams formed to nab the culprits, and more police personnel from other districts have been called for security," Gowda said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

A group of people attacked Prashanth with lethal weapons after stopping him on the roadside while he was returning home, said The Hindu report. He succumbed to injuries on the spot. Police reportedly recovered weapons and an auto-rickshaw from the spot where the tragedy happened. Prashanth's father HR Nagaraj was also murdered in September 2005. HR Nagaraj was also a member of Hassan City Municipal Council.

In a similar manner, in 2018, a JD(S) leader Prakash was hacked to death. The attackers stopped the vehicle Prakash was commuting in and they attacked him with lethal weapons.
