DK Shivakumar Will Become Karnataka CM After 2.5 Years: Congress MP DK Suresh
Congress MP DK Suresh made the statement when he was questioned about whether Shivakumar's ambition to become Chief Minister would be realized.
Congress MP DK Suresh on Wednesday claimed that his brother and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar would become the Chief Minister after two-and-a-half years. The Congress leader made the statement to a question on the potential replacement of CM Siddaramaiah by a leading Kannada media outlet.
When asked about an alleged power-sharing arrangement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for a two-and-a-half-year term, Suresh remarked, "The high command has made a decision regarding the matter. I won't disclose anything publicly now, but a time will come when Shivakumar's aspirations will come to fruition."
In October 2023, Congress MLA from Mandya, Ravikumar Gowda, stirred controversy by asserting that "Shivakumar would assume the role of Karnataka's CM after 2.6 years of Siddaramaiah-led government's tenure." Ravikumar emphasized Shivakumar's party contributions as the basis for his claim.
Shivakumar, when queried about power-sharing, deferred to the high command's authority on decisions related to the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister posts. "Decisions are not ours to make, but it will benefit us all," he remarked.
In November 2023, amid discussions on power-sharing, CM Siddaramaiah declared, "Our government will remain in power for five years. I am the Chief Minister now, and I will continue."
In response, Shivakumar refrained from commenting, asserting his adherence to the party's directives, the report said.
