Karnataka: BJP Plans Demonstration Demanding SIT Probe Into Haveri Gangrape Case
Further, the former CM Siddaramaiah said that many leaders including Leader of Opposition in Assembly Ashoka would participate in the protest.
Karnataka Former CM and BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday announced that the party would stage a protest in Haveri on January 20 demanding a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the alleged gang rape of a woman. He said the BJP would hold a massive protest in front of the office of SP at Haveri on Saturday.
The former CM said that many leaders including Leader of Opposition in Assembly Ashoka would participate in the protest.
Accusing the Hangal police of failing to adhere to the law, Bommai asserted that the victim was not receiving proper treatment. He criticized the Chief Minister for overlooking the case, stating that the refusal to establish an SIT only emboldens the perpetrators. Consequently, a decision has been made to stage a protest in front of the Haveri SP office on January 20, demanding an SIT investigation, announced the BJP leader.
“In Haveri, the police tried to cover up the case of gang rape. Haveri SP and the state Home Minister G Parameshwara are not ready to accept it. Till now they have suspended some policemen in Hangal, which is an admission of omission by the police,” Bommai said in a statement, as per a report on PTI.
A 26-year-old Muslim woman reportedly checked into a hotel in Hangal taluk of Haveri district with a friend from another community on January 8. During their stay, seven individuals forcibly entered the room and subsequently assaulted her.
The attackers recorded the incident and shared it on various social media platforms.
Further, she alleged that the accused also raped her at a secluded place.
Additionally, she claimed that the police arrested two innocent individuals while some of the actual perpetrators remain at large.
